The Frank Tomes Memorial page

A very good friend of ours and world renowned luthier Frank Tomes sadly passed away last year. This page is dedicated to his life and work and this ‘sculptural memorial’ goes in some way to visually describe the beauty of his passion. The Frank Tomes Memorial Sculpture.

This bucket of horns was taken from Franks workshop just after he passed away and it shows some of his horns in the process of being manufactured. Sadly missed and ‘blow on’ brother Frank.

  1. Frank was a fantastic man, and I had the privilege of receiving his last trumpet. He said ““With regards to a trumpet I still have my last D/C Ehe unsold as I have been waiting for it to go to a good home. I couldn’t hope for a better home for it than yours…”

In short, a brilliant man! I’m so pleased to see that his instruments have been catalogued by the Edinburgh Collection and there’s now a book for sale of the Frank Tomes Collection.

    • Hi there Russel and many thanks for your post. Yes indeed Frank was [and still is in many of our minds] one of the most wonderful, talented and humane men i have every had the pleasure of working with. You are indeed very fortunate to have custordy of one of his, [the last in fact] trumpet[s]. I salute your choice of weapon and all the very best to you for the future.
